Kobbari Pappu ( Coconut and Chana Dal)


Chana Dal - 1 cup
Grated Fresh or frozen Coconut - 1/2 cup
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Mustard seed - 1tsp
Red chilli dry - 2 number
Curry leaves - 5
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - 1 1/2 cup


Take 1 cup of chana dal, wash three or four times and boil in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles with 1.5 cups of water.

After boiling the Dal, immediately drain the water in the cooked Dal, set aside and let it coll down.

If you are using frozen coconut, take 1/2 cup of coconut and put it in microwave for 30sec.

Take a pan, add 1 tbsp of oil, when it is hot add red chilli and urad dal,fry for 1 min...then add mustard seeds, when they crackle add curry leaves and coconut.

Fry this coconut mixture for 3-4 min. or till you get nice flavor, then add chana dal.

Mix well, nicely coat the chana dal with coconut and cook for another 5 min,adjust salt.

Serve with hot Rice and Ghee.
