Tamarind Rice- 1

Ingredients:

Rice - 2 cups
Water - 4 cups
Tamarind pulp - 4 tbsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Pea-nuts - 1/4 cup
Chana dal - 3 tbsp
Urad dal - 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
RedChilli dry - 10 number
Green Chilli - 15 number
Curry Leaves
Hing
Salt - to taste

Procedure:

Wash the rice twice, add water to rice in the ratio of 2:1( 2cups water and 1 cup rice), add 1 tsp of oil and put it in a pressure cooker and cook for one whistle and switch off the stove... take out the lid after 10 min and spread the rice in a wide vessel and let it come to room temperature.

In the meantime make a thick tamarind paste or use tamarind pulp, add 1 tbsp of Chana dal, half of the red chilli whole, half of the green chilli and cook till they are well cooked.

Now take a pan, add 3 tbsp of oil, and peanuts and fry for 3min. then add remaining red chilli, chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds and fry. When mustard seeds crackle add greenchilli, curry leaves and fry for some more time till they are done.

In the mean time add cooked tamarind mixture to rice and mix well with hand.

Now add Pea-nut mixture to the rice and mix well.

Adjust salt and serve.

This one i got the recipe from one of my friend's Mom Nirmala aunty. I never met her, even i never spoke to her but we really love some of her dishes. When ever we want to eat something very spicy we prefer this tamarind rice. There are lot of versions of tamarind rice but this is for extreme spice lovers. Green chillis cooked in tamarind sauce tastes yummy and we can just eat them.

Variations:

You can adjust tamarind paste according to your taste by adding tamarind pulp after adding salt also.
